The Historic Graffiti Society is a 501c3 nonprofit based in Washington State. Despite the name, it is an organization of two people— Mike is a retired mechanical engineer and Charlie is a photographer and creative director.
Their interest in historic hobo graffiti was sparked by “Tex King of Tramps,” who was said to have inscribed his moniker along railroads across the country. They found three of his marks on a weekend drive in 2014, and now make annual road trips that have taken them to 24 states.
In 2018, they established the Historic Graffiti Society to encourage preservation of this vanishing history.
