Yusuf Hassan is a New York-based artist and publisher who founded BlackMass
Publishing in 2019. Rooted in the legacy of Black radical thought and inspired
by Amiri Baraka’s A Black Mass, Hassan created the platform as a means to
explore and circulate Black cultural production through zines, books, and
collaborative printed matter. His practice is grounded in the belief that
publishing can serve as both a personal and communal act—one that archives,
resists, and reimagines. Through BlackMass, Hassan engages in an ongoing
conversation with Black history, music, language, and visual culture, using
print as a tool for both immediacy and memory.
